A bubble level and an on-screen ruler for your phone, with a compass, a sound meter and a protractor beside them. Open the tool you need, take the reading, done.
Five everyday measuring tools in one small app, with no account and no sign-up.
Bubble level
- Lay the phone on a shelf or a table: a round bubble shows the tilt in both directions
- Stand it on an edge against a picture frame or a door: a tube level, the spirit level kind, shows how far that edge is off
- Angles to a tenth of a degree, with a smoothed, steady reading
- Calibrate the bubble level on a surface you trust; the zero is remembered
- Hold a reading to read it later, and feel a gentle tap when it is level (you can switch that off)
Ruler
- Millimetres and inches on the screen, drawn from your screen's real pixel density
- Drag two lines to the ends of a small object and read the distance between them
- Calibrate once with any bank or ID card (they are all 85.60 × 53.98 mm) for the best accuracy
Compass
- Magnetic heading in degrees and compass points, steady even when the phone is tilted
- Lock a bearing and see how far you are off it
- A hint appears when nearby metal or magnets disturb the reading, with the figure-8 calibration move
- Shows magnetic north. True north can differ by a few degrees where you are. Your location is never used
Sound meter
- An approximate decibel meter: an estimate of how loud it is around you, in decibels, with lowest, average and highest levels
- A graph of the last 30 seconds and typical levels for comparison
- Adjust the estimate if you have a sound level meter to compare with
- Phones are not sound level meters, so the reading is an approximation. The microphone is used only while the sound meter is open and listening, and nothing is recorded or saved
Protractor and angle finder
- Measure an angle on screen by dragging two arms
- Or read the phone's own tilt from horizontal and from vertical
Designed for readings
- The screen stays on and does not turn while a tool is open
- Metric or imperial, chosen from your phone's region and changeable in Settings
- Light and dark themes, large text supported
Private by design
No account, no sign-up. The level, ruler and other tools work without an internet connection (ads need one). Calibrations and settings stay on your phone. The microphone is asked for only when you start the sound meter.
LevelPal is free and contains ads: a banner on the tool list and an occasional full-screen ad when you open another tool after using one. The tools themselves never show ads.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a bubble level app that works offline with no account?
LevelPal is a bubble level for Android that works without internet and needs no account. Lay the phone flat for a round bubble, or stand it on an edge for a tube level, with angles to a tenth of a degree.
How can I measure a small object with my phone screen?
LevelPal has an on-screen ruler in millimetres and inches: hold the object against the screen and drag two lines to its ends. For the best accuracy, calibrate it once with any bank or ID card, which are all 85.60 x 53.98 mm.
Can my phone tell me roughly how loud it is around me?
LevelPal's sound meter gives an approximate decibel reading with minimum, average and maximum values and a graph of the last 30 seconds. Phones are not sound level meters, so treat it as an estimate; you can adjust the offset against a real meter.
Is LevelPal free?
Yes, LevelPal is free and contains ads: a banner on the tool list and an occasional full-screen ad when you open another tool after using one. There are no in-app purchases, and the tool screens never show ads.
Does the LevelPal compass use GPS or show true north?
No. LevelPal's compass shows magnetic north from the phone's magnetometer and never uses your location. True north can differ by a few degrees where you are. You can lock a bearing and see how far you are off it.
How is LevelPal different from other level apps?
LevelPal puts five tools in one app: bubble level, ruler, compass, sound meter and protractor. You can calibrate the level's zero and the ruler with a card, and no tool screen shows an ad.
Does LevelPal record audio or collect my data?
No. LevelPal uses the microphone only while the sound meter listens, turns it into a level in memory and keeps no recording. Calibrations and settings stay on your phone; only the Google AdMob SDK collects data for ads.
