Every cryptogram puzzle here is a familiar saying in disguise. Each letter has been swapped for a different one. Work out which is which, and the proverb appears.
Proverb Cipher is a cryptogram word game. "A STITCH IN TIME SAVES NINE" might show up as rows of strange letters. Spot the one-letter word, guess the common short words, and every letter you find fills in all over the puzzle. Once it is solved you see the whole proverb with a short note on what it means.
How it plays
Tap a letter in the puzzle, then pick the real letter on the game's keyboard
Your letter fills in everywhere that code letter appears
A few letters are given at the start: three on the early levels, fewer as you go on
A wrong letter costs a heart. You have three for each puzzle
One free hint per puzzle reveals a letter of your choice
360 levels, from gentle to tricky
The levels are sorted from easy to hard: short words and common letters first, long words and rare letters later. They come in packs of 30 and open one after the other. Earn up to three stars on each: solve without a mistake or a hint for all three.
A new cipher puzzle every day
The daily cryptogram changes at midnight. Solve it at the first try on consecutive days to build your streak.
Play your way
Prefer pencil and paper rules? Turn off "Check letters as you go" in Settings: letters are not checked, you can move and erase them freely, and you fix your own mistakes
Leave a puzzle at any time; it is saved and waits for you
Light and dark themes, and you can turn the vibration off
Works on phones and tablets, upright or sideways
Help when you want it
After the free hint, you can choose to watch a short video for another hint. If you run out of hearts you can start the puzzle again, or watch a video for one more chance (once per puzzle). Videos only play when you choose them.
Everything stays on your phone
No account and no sign-up. This word puzzle works without an internet connection (ads need one), and your stars and streak are kept on your phone only.
Proverb Cipher is free and contains ads: a banner on the menu, the level list and the "Solved!" screen, and an occasional full-screen ad after you leave a "Solved!" screen. There is never an ad on the puzzle while you play.
